Importing, Exporting and Analysing your spurls

Importing

You can import links to your Spurl.net account from several different bookmark file formats. Currently Spurl.net supports Netscape Bookmarks file format (used by Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape and Mozilla based browsers), Opera .adr files and bookmarks from the del.icio.us social bookmarking service.

To import bookmark files go to My Spurls > Import here on the Spurl.net website and follow the instructions.

You will be able to choose which bookmarks to include in the import as well as mark the bookmarks you choose as private. Please read the on-page instructions for the import process carefully.

To import bookmarks from del.icio.us, go to Settings > del.icio.us settings and enter your username and password there.

You can import many bookmark files to the same account. The folder structure will simply be merged if you happen to have partly the same structure in two or more files. Uploading the same file twice (e.g. with recent additions) is also safe. The new bookmarks will be imported, but no duplicate links will be created.

Exporting

You can export links from your Spurl.net account in the Netscape Bookmarks file format. This format is supported by all major (and pretty much all minor) browsers and bookmarking applications.

Even though Spurl.net makes daily backups of all your bookmarks and other Spurl.net information, exporting your links on a regular basis is a reasonable backup precaution.

Analysing the library

Under My Spurls > Analysis, you can see some statistics about your spurl library: How many spurls you have, how many of them are private and how many broken (in which case Spurl.net's cached copies can come in very handy).

Note that the broken links list is based on information from our bot that visits every bookmarked link at least once a week to check the page status. A broken link can be detected just by coincidence (website temporarily down at the time of last visit). It can also take the Spurl bot up to a week to make the first visit to a new spurl, so it may take a little time for broken links to show up, e.g. from a recently imported bookmark file.
